Table 1 illustrates how important latitude is in the matching of climates. Other important factors are distance from the coast, east coast vs west coast, and sea surface temperature. For instance, Darwin and Acapulco both are on coasts facing the equator, within reach of the ITCZ. Sydney is on a east coast, as are Buenos Aires and Charleston. Annual temperature ranges are generally higher in the northern hemisphere because the continents there are larger.
