Reference:
- A basic reference book is the 'Smithsonian Meteorological
Tables', published by the Smithsonian Institution Press,
Washington. We also recommend the 'Observer's Handbook'
published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office, London.
Many university libraries contain the numerous volumes of
the World Survey of Climatology (Elsevier) which describe
climates in every part of the Earth. A useful, cheap
compendium of climate data is that of Pearce & Smith
(Hutchinson, 1990).
- A more recent book (Linacre 1992) contains considerable
information on measuring, estimating and analysing
climate data. Also on solar radiation, wind and
precipitation, and a report of events in Bullhead City,
Arizona.
- Finally, it seems necessary to remind many students that
gathering material for an essay should always include
consulting an encyclopedia, amongst which the
Encyclopedia Britannica is outstanding, and the
Encyclopedia of Earth Sciences contains many relevant
articles.
